As chair of the 2026 edition of the Concours Philosopher, Ryoa Chung (Université de Montréal) offers us a stimulating and thought-provoking overview of this year’s competition theme, “Vers la paix?”.

In her speech, she offers an overview of some of the more traditional lines of thought in the history of ideas, in order to openly address the question of peace from the perspective of colonialism, imperialism, oppression, social friction and movements, the erosion of democracy, the rise of populism and authoritarianism, and historical progress that brings hope.
